Tiktok, A Major Social Media Platform Is Finally Getting Stories

Updated: Aug 7, 2021

It is certain that in 2021 social media platforms will at some point test an unfortunate version of each other's features. Tiktok is experimenting with a new stories feature. It is a known fact that social media is essential to businesses around the globe today.

The rumor was first reported by Geekout founder Matt Navarra, and a TikTok spokesperson has since confirmed its truth to The Verge. The addition will be similar to the features you no doubt find on Facebook ("Stories"), Pinterest ("Story Pins"), LinkedIn ("Stories", once again) and Twitter (the "Stories") called Fleets, as users can only post live content for 24 hours before being automatically deleted, ergo some people rarely use it. Instagram itself stole stories straight from Snapchat, but that's age-old history.

According to the screenshots posted by Navarro, the latest TikTok feature will of course also be called Stories and live in a newly added sliding bar that gives you access to a carousel of content from the accounts you are following. In a statement to Variety, a spokesman for the app, owned by Chinese Internet giant ByteDance, confirmed that a small pilot project is already underway in several countries outside of the US. To add value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience, ”the spokesman said. "We're currently experimenting with ways to provide creators with additional formats to bring their creative ideas to life for the TikTok community."
