It is an accepted fact that love alone cannot keep a marriage strong and healthy, although it is a requirement. The responsibilities of life take a toll on a relationship and make it difficult to have quality time with your spouse. There are numerous ways to keep the fire burning in your relationship but in this article, we will focus on 7 of them.

1. Greet each other

Greet each other at every slight opportunity be it when you wake up in the morning and when your significant other gets home, it shows that you missed them while they were away. A simple welcome home followed with a hug and a kiss goes a long way in strengthening the bond between couples.

2. Have a heart-to-heart

If you have kids, taking care of them consumes most of your time, Being busy either taking your kids to school, hospitals, events, shopping and so much more activities can tire one out. At least once in a week create time for a heart-to-heart chat maybe over some wine, where you can talk about your week so far and your short and long term plans. This creates some sense of direction in the relationship, making the chat more romantic will make it more relaxing and has a significant effect on both parties.

3. Share each day

At the end of each day probably over dinner share how your day was, good or bad. It can be comforting to know your spouse is there to listen to you and share in your joy or disappointments. It is also a means of maintaining healthy communication between you and your spouse.

4. Going out on dates

Going on weekly dates with your spouse keeps the flame of romance burning. It can grow pretty dull when there are no dates in a relationship, so go for date nights, see a movie that both parties want to see, have dinner a nice restaurant, there are numerous exciting things that can be done while on a date. This is an opportunity for both of you to take a break from the rigors of parenting. Also, make it rule to not use cell phones during these dates to avoid distractions.

5. Physical contact

Regular physical contact between couples goes a long way in strengthening the bond between couples and increasing happiness. Little gestures such as a kiss on the cheek, holding hands in public while walking or greater physical affection such as lovemaking have an important role in creating a strong relationship. Whether great or small, regular physical affections are a necessity in a happy relationship.

6. Playtime

Playtime is important in a relationship whatever the game is be pillow fights, tag, video games, charades, cards the list is limitless, has a deep impact in making a relationship a happy one. The games can be planned or unplanned and should be done regularly.

7. Good surprises

Surprises should not be reserved for birthdays or anniversaries alone. Create a habit of surprising your spouse be it with a gift, a kiss, or a love note on the bed or chair. These acts of romance or kindness renew the love in the relationship.

In conclusion, keeping a relationship strong and healthy takes dedication and hard work, so you have to be ready to do the work. In the long run, the work does pay off and aids in building a lasting and joyous relationship.
